Q) How is time-series ground subsidence monitoring conducted?
Ground displacement observation through field surveys is unsuitable for monitoring ground subsidence occurring over wide areas. Satellite-based Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is very effective for monitoring as it can observe extensive areas without limitations from weather and day/night conditions. Therefore, precise time-series ground subsidence monitoring is conducted through time-series analysis techniques that utilize multiple SAR images of the same area. I am conducting research to observe continuous ground subsidence at Busan New Port and its hinterland by applying Persistent Scatterer Interferometric SAR (PSInSAR), which is one of the SAR time-series analysis techniques.
